Our Kids in the News

Richard's drawing depicting the theme "Climate Change Impacts on the Islands", finished 3rd place in the K-2 grade category of the 2012 Chamorro and Refaluwasch Lunar Calendar poster contest sponsored by the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council.  Here he's pictured with two classmates who finished 1st and 2nd, along with their 2nd grade teacher, Miss Rachel, and their art teacher and GCA school principal.    The three students winning works are featured in the 2012 Chamorro and Refaluwasch Lunar Calendar, which was unveiled March 5 at a Fiesta Resort lunch banquet during a recently completed Fishery Council gathering.  Very cool, good job son!!  Here is the article in the Marianas Variety.
Not to be outdone, Lyssa Rae won double honors in the recent Primary Grades Forensic Competition (PGFC) held on Feb. 25 at Koblerville Elementary School, Saipan.  This is pretty impressive in that she is a K4 student competing against kids all the way up to 2nd grade, three years older than her.  Her "Dramatic Interpretation" of "The 3 Little Kittens" was hilarious.....total drama queen in-the-making.  She finished in 2nd place behind a girl in 2nd grade for that performance.  Below is a portion of a press release from her school showing GCA school winners in the categories in which Lyssa placed;

K-2 Division

Dramatic Interpretation "B"
Lyssa Rae Steele, 2nd place
Steven Adriatico, 4th place
Makena Carrasco, 5th place

Impromptu Speaking "B"
Jerome Gaspar, 2nd place
Cristina Kim, 3rd place
Lyssa Rae Steele, 5th place

The picture below shows all GCA students who placed in the PGFC.  Lyssa is on the far right, bottom row. Congratulations to our Little Princess, you made us proud!
